Laser Assisted Uvulopalatoplasty

Laser assisted uvulopalatoplasty (LAUP) is an office procedure to treat snoring and mild to moderate sleep apnea. Under local anesthesia, a laser is used to reduce the length of the soft palate and uvula similar to uvulopalatopharyngoplasty. Often more than one treatment is needed.

Potential risks after treatment

  • Some pain
  • Mild palatal swelling
  • Mucosal erosions
  • The surgery may result in a nasal quality to the voice.
  • Narrowing of the airway in the nose and throat
  • Infection or bleeding
