Occasionally, a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan is also needed for evaluation. An MRI is better at delineating differences between soft tissue masses such as tumor, brain, or simply a blocked sinus. The extent of a tumor into the brain or orbit (eye) is also better determined with an MRI scan. Depending on the findings of your CT scan and physical examination, your physician may also request an MRI for these reasons.
